Google has released the Pixel Watch 5 with improved GPS accuracy, which has been tested in New York City against the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The Pixel Watch 5 has increased processor CPU power by 12%, increased RAM by 60%, and claimed 20% faster overall operations. It also features added GPS post-processing accuracy gains, weight and rep tracking, workout builder, audio cues for structured workouts, rest timers for structured workouts, Bedtime mode with face, 11 new glanceable complication styles, 2 new watch faces, generative watch faces, 'Raise to Gemini' questions/answers in no-internet situations, Gemini proactive text responses for automatic replies, 15% more accurate sleep tracking, smart wake alarm option, overnight sleep breathing quality metric, 'Health Guardian' umbrella feature/concept, Breathing emergency detection, and Blood Pressure trends report.

The Pixel Watch 5 has a new feature that substantially increases the accuracy of GPS tracks. Google team members handed over the watch to a reviewer, who tested it in New York City against the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The reviewer flew to New York City to test the Pixel Watch 5's GPS accuracy in one of the most difficult locations on earth. They ran, cycled, and walked with the watch, trying to break it. The reviewer managed to break the Garmin and Apple GPS tracks, but mostly broke the Pixel Watch 5.

Google's GPS changes include 3D building models, DGNSS weather correction, and signal fusion. The 3D building models use Google's massive database of the entire world, mapped in 3D, to determine whether or not the watch can see the satellite it thinks it can see. The DGNSS weather correction uses real-time reference stations to understand current weather and atmospheric conditions for the exact location. The signal fusion reprocesses the signal in the cloud with the 3D building/terrain models and DGNSS weather correction.

The Pixel Watch 5's GPS accuracy has been compared to the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra 3 in a series of tests. The results show that the Pixel Watch 5's GPS accuracy is improved, with crispy lines and accurate tracks.
